Note: If you are looking for a stock Miata, this car is not for you. This is a driving enthusiast's car that has been tastefully modified from stock with more than $15,000 of aftermarket parts and labor. I have a complete list below. Right now, all it needs is paint and bodywork and a weekend of wrenching to be an exceptional ride. The NA6 is the lightest era of the first-generation Miata. In this car, the 1.6 liter engine was replaced with the more powerful 1.8 liter model from a later year (engine swap was professionally inspected). I am listing this car at $11,500, which is below it's fair-market price. If I find time to get to any of the to-do items before it sells, I will update the price.

I am selling my rust-free (except for surface rust on wiper-blades) and accident-free, (clean Texas Title) 1990 Mazda Mx-5 Miata (na6). This car has been garage-kept during the five years that I owned it. It has also NEVER been driven in Washington rain or snow.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Yes, cosmetically, it is a bit of an ugly duckling at the moment. There is a small amount of damage on the front driver's corner from someone bumping the car in a parking lot. Paint and bodywork were the last items on my upgrade list, and I never got around to them. Thankfully, the convertible top is in excellent condition.

The interior is in good shape. The Momo steering wheel (pictured, not mounted) feels great in your hands. The rare custom MiataRoadster short throw shifter is functional and gorgeous. The premium carpets and black leatherette seats are pristine, (only driven a few hundred miles since installed). Note that in the photos the horn button is not installed. I have a brand-new horn button waiting to install with the Hella horn kit I bought, which comes with the car.

What it lacks in beauty at the moment, it more than makes up for in high-quality upgrades. Any Miata owner will tell you the driving experience is exciting. I can tell you with these upgrades, this Miata goes a step beyond "exciting" and into "addictive". The exhaust note alone is intoxicating.

I have owned this car since 2019, and regularly commuted in it to work, in TX 30 miles round-trip. I had planned to keep this car forever as a toy/weekend-track-car, but the truth is I work from home, rarely drive these days, haven't had the time to enjoy this car in a while now, and I don't want it to collect dust in my garage.

To provide a little history, I bought this Miata back in 2019 when I lived in TX. I bought it from my brother, a mechanical engineer, who bought it in 2017. He daily-drove the car, loved the driving experience, and enjoyed tinkering on the car, but after it became his second car he couldn't justify keeping it. My brother bought the car from the person who originally built the car. That man was a die-hard miata enthusiast who owned many of them and built several specially for autocross racing. This Miata is one he built as a hybrid daily-driver/weekend-toy.

I work in tech and unfortunately since moving to WA I’ve had less and less time to enjoy and tinker with this car. A few things I have had done: Replaced radiator with a TIG welded all-aluminum Mishimoto radiator (Lifetime Warranty). Reupholstery of the seats with new black leatherette upholstery from Sierra Auto Tops & Seats. I bought a high-performance (track oriented) coolant reroute kit from Flyin’ Miata (09-6002x) that I have not yet had time to install. I also bought a HELLA Supertone horn kit that I have not finished installing.

I have a box of original parts, which will come with the car. Both the installed steering wheel and the Momo steering wheel, (pictured but not installed), will come with the car.

MODIFICATIONS AND UPGRADES:

Drivetrain:
- Flyin’ Miata 1.8L Motor Swap:
- https://flyinmiata.com/products/1-8-conversion-kit Installed by previous owner. Swapped in with 130k on the chassis and 87k on the motor. The mileage now is 154k on the chassis and 111k on the motor. The swap was inspected by Stephen at Miata solutions in Justin, TX when my brother bought the car. You can find more info about his shop here: https://miatasolutions.com/
- Mishimoto Radiator:

- Flyin’ Miata Coolant Reroute Kit (not installed):
- Miata Roadster short shifter kit.
- This kit not only shortens shifter throws, it also lengthens the shifter 4” higher than stock and angles toward the driver. It makes shifting extremely quick and natural due to the much shorter distance your hand travels from the steering wheel. (This is my favorite mod on the car). https://miataroadster.com/products/ols/products/mazdashifters-short-shifter-kits/v/MS-SSK-NANB-5-4-T-A
- Flyin’ Miata Dual Exhaust.
- https://miata.net/products/ptm/ptm9704.html This is one of the best exhaust kits ever made for the NA Miata, and Flyin' Miata does not make it anymore. This exhaust has the most menacing sound that I have ever heard from a Miata - a really deep throaty scream. The rear bumper is cut to allow for both exhaust tips.
- Lightened 10.3 lb flywheel. Installed by previous owner. A bit noisy, as lightened flywheels tend to be, but the car revs telepathically fast. I was told it is this flywheel: https://flyinmiata.com/products/fm-lightweight-flywheel
- Stage 2 clutch - 318 ft-lbs rated. Installed by previous owner. Heavy to push in and quick to engage. I was told it is this ACT clutch: https://mossmiata.com/performance-clutches-by-act?289=4063&aid=1672&msclkid=2008c98f384b1edf99d4aae1f7165403
- New clutch hydraulics kit from 949 racing, including the master cylinder, slave cylinder, and a steel braided clutch line. https://949racing.com/product/clutch-hydraulic-overhaul-kit-hok/
- Bigger brakes from a later model Miata. Fabulous stopping force.
- EGR delete.
- Uremco Injectors from summit racing.
- Inline fuel pressure gauge from summit racing.
- Timing set at 14 degrees for increased low-end torque.

Suspension:
- TEIN Street Advance Coilovers
- https://mossmiata.com/1990-1997-miata/suspension-steering/coil-overs-shocks/street-advance-z-coilover-kit-by-tein-set-of-4
- Flyin’ Miata Frame Rail Braces.
- Flyin’ Miata Strut Tower Brace.
- Flyin' Miata oversized adjustable tubular sway bars front/rear.

Wheels & Tires:
- 15” Keonig Feathers with wheel locks on every lug.
- 3 tires with low miles that have Discount Tire certificates. One tire on front is worn and will need replacement soon.

Safety:

- Console delete with carpeted transmission tunnel.
- Momo Competition Steering Wheel (Not currently installed. Comes with the car.)
- Aftermarket single din stereo head unit with Auxiliary port.
- JVC heat unit.

Like any car this age, it has a few maintenance items that I have on a “to-do” list. If I get to them before it sells, I’ll update the ad. The bottom line is, I want you to know exactly what I have so you don’t waste your time, and I don’t waste mine. If you are looking for a fun car that needs a weekend of wrenching before you enjoy a season of nice weather, this is one of the best opportunities for sale right now.

To-Do List:

Bodywork
- The front bumper is slightly bent from a parking lot fender bender. Corner marker light cracked as well.
- Paint shows age.
- Various dings on several body panels.
- Dent that was pushed out but not completely fixed on the right rear fender.
- The rear finish panel is sun damaged and needs to be replaced.
- The wiper arms have surface rust. These can easily be replaced or painted.
Drivetrain
- Vibration felt through the shifter at certain speeds. (Likely a worn bushing. Just have not had time to look at it.)
- Small coolant leak coming from the head gasket on the back of the head. (I planned to install a new head gasket when I installed the performance coolant reroute kit that I have for the car.)
- Parking brake sticks occasionally. Needs to be oiled. (Replacement is inexpensive.)
Interior
- Gauge cluster hood was cracked by a tech that worked on the car a few years ago. He epoxied it back together. This one is perfectly functional, but you may want a cover or replacement if you plan on a 10/10 interior.

Replaced Parts/services:
Alternator
Battery
Fuel filter
Spark plugs and wires
Ignition coil
Upstream Oxygen Sensor
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Regular oil & filter changes
