You can take the girl out of Chicago, but you can’t take the White Castle sliders out of the girl. They kind of do that all by themself – hence the name 😉

The good news is you can make these popular burgers at home anytime.

Even better news – use this low carb burger bowl to get good results on a keto diet. Plus, no more quick trips to the potty after eating one too many of the fast food sliders we all know and have a love/hate relationship with.

Ingredients for Low Carb White Castle Burger Bowls

The main ingredients that make up this easy burger bowl include ground beef, onions, and shredded cheddar if you want to make it a cheeseburger bowl. The spices you need include dried onion flakes, onion powder, celery seeds, black pepper, and paprika.

To get the true White Castle experience, the secret ingredient in this recipe is a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Where’s the Beef?

Let’s start with the ground beef since that’s the star of this low carb burger bowl. While you may be tempted to grab a pound ground beef on sale at your local grocer, choose organic, grass-fed beef whenever you can. Not only does this version have more nutrients than the conventional version, but it also has less toxins.

Since all of the perks of grass-fed beef add up to easier fat burning, it’s in your best interest to move your focus beyond just looking at the carb count in keto recipes. If you’re unable to source high quality meat near you, check out Butcher Box. They deliver grass-fed, organic meat directly to your doorstep each month.

Also, keto is a high fat diet. This means skip the lean cuts of beef.

If you’re tempted to choose ground turkey over a higher fat ground beef, this often signals a problem when it comes to digestion. Since low fat keto doesn’t work for most people, take the free Keto Digestion Course to learn how to thrive on a keto diet by incorporating enough fat in your low carb meals.

Let’s Get Spicy

If you’ve spent any time in the kitchen, you may have noticed the spices used in this low carb burger bowl recipe are eerily similar to the spices used in a packet of dry onion soup mix. While it may be tempting to just grab a packet and throw it in, that’s not a great idea.

While adding a seasoning mixture seems like the easy solution, packages of dry onion soup mix also come with extra ingredients that aren’t ideal for a keto diet. Whipping up homemade spice mixes at home is a much better practice since you can control the ingredients that go into your keto burger bowls.

I promise that adding a little onion powder here, and a dash of pepper there, doesn’t take that much extra elbow grease. It’s worth the health benefits that come with a little extra prep work.

Add Some Flavor

The final ingredients that make up this White Castle burger bowl are shredded cheese and a tablespoon of peanut butter. While the cheese is optional, don’t skip the peanut butter. This small addition really helps give this special dish an authentic flavor. If you’re sensitive to peanut butter, feel free to swap this ingredient out for almond butter instead.

Another optional ingredient is a burger sauce made from dill pickle relish combined with low sugar ketchup, a bit of yellow mustard, and a mayonnaise mixture. While this differs from the restaurant version that doesn’t have any sauce, it’s a delicious addition to this burger bowl. This is especially true if you choose to leave off the melted cheese, like I often do.

How to Make Low Carb White Castle Burger Bowls

This easy keto ground beef recipe can be ready to serve in less than 20 minutes from start to finish.

First, chop the onion into small pieces and set aside. Then, brown hamburger meat in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

While you brown ground beef, stir in chopped onions, dried onions, and onion powder – basically everything onion that makes this burger bowl taste like the real thing!

But you’ll also want to mix in the rest of the spices as well. Once you mix in all of the spices, add the peanut butter. Allow it to melt into the meat mixture while you stir to combine the flavors together.

I will warn you this recipe is rich in onion flavor. I’m sure that’s me being Captain Obvious after you just topped the meat with three different versions of onions. If you don’t love an overwhelming onion flavor, you can cut back on the dried onions or use less of the regular onion powder.

Once the meat is browned, you may have to drain fat if there is too much grease. Then turn the heat to medium-low. If you want to turn this into a cheeseburger bowl, sprinkle the cheese on top of the meat mixture. Allow it to cook for a few more minutes as the cheese melts on top of meat.
